History

Markus started by working closely with its customers in the added-value convenience food and ready meal sector who supplied, mainly under own-label, to all of the major UK food retailers. The Company has continued to develop its core portioned products business.  At the same time it has diversified into added value sachet and bulk products. The business now has growth plans to increase its existing core business and to progressively develop other market segments and innovative new products.

How it started

Markus Products Limited was established in March 1989 in 1,250 square foot premises in Gillingham, Dorset to manufacture a limited range of bulk garlic spreads for pizza manufacturers and food service.

Expansion and growth

The start of 2003 saw the company continuing to grow, and it had by now expanded to occupy 12,000 square feet of premises.

A new home

After another period of growth the business was moved six miles to a brand new purpose built 30,000 sq ft premises on a 2.2 acre site.

Form and Function

Progressively, purpose built machinery was developed to enable the volume-manufacture of a wide range of portion shapes, weights and sizes. This extended the available market to most added-value categories.

Sauce advantage

We installed a cooked sauce operation. This was to provide sachet and bulk sauces to existing or similar customers.
